It is hard to believe that nearly a month has passed since the UNTOLD KAIZEN Concert.
After six weeks of writing, rehearsing, recording, rewriting and starting again, our young men took to the stage and achieved something extraordinary: together, they created and performed a live music concert inside the prison.
This year’s theme was KAIZEN—the Japanese philosophy of continuous improvement. It became far more than the name of the concert; it shaped the entire journey.
Every lyric was written with intention. Every rehearsal pushed the men a little further than the last. Every performance reflected the confidence, resilience and creativity that had been growing week after week.
Watching it all come together in front of a live audience was something none of us will forget. More than 60 guests joined us inside the prison, including prison staff, music industry professionals, theatre directors and supporters of UNTOLD. The room was alive with energy from the very beginning. There was applause, laughter and tears—and moments when people simply looked at one another because words were not enough. It had all the atmosphere of a live music venue, except this one was behind prison walls.
But the concert was never only about the music.
It was about creating a platform where the men’s stories could be heard. It was about showing what can become possible when people are given the time, trust and opportunity to express themselves. Our students continue to demonstrate that, when expectations are raised and the right support is there to match them, they rise to the challenge.
Even within one of the most confined environments imaginable, UNTOLD creates opportunities for young men to discover their voices, develop their creativity and build confidence in themselves.
KAIZEN was another powerful reminder that growth does not happen overnight. It comes through persistence, reflection and the willingness to keep improving. Small changes, repeated over time, can lead to remarkable things.
To everyone who attended and supported the concert, thank you. To the prison staff, artists and partners who helped make it possible, thank you for believing in the vision.
Most importantly, thank you to the men: for trusting the process, showing up week after week, challenging yourselves and having the courage to share your UNTOLD truths.
